Hampshire Cricket League – Women’s Division 1
Fernhill Sports Ground | 14 June 2026
New Milton’s Women’s 1st XI put in a tidy all-round performance to secure a comfortable win over Hursley Park’s 2nd XI, chasing down 144 with plenty to spare and only three wickets down.
Hursley Park set a modest total
After being put into bat, Hursley Park never quite found sustained momentum, eventually bowled out for 143 in their 40 overs.
There were a few bright spots. Sabela Steele Velazquez top-scored with a well-compiled 38, anchoring the middle order nicely after a bit of early wobble. Jem Green showed patience for her 18 from 50 balls, while Ellie Musson added a late flourish with an unbeaten 19.
However, wickets fell regularly, especially through the middle overs. New Milton kept things tight with the ball, and a key moment came when Hursley slipped from 43-4 to 44-6, halting any chance of a big total.
The bowling effort was nicely shared around:
Daisy Gittins led the way with 3 wickets
Lucia Hill chipped in with 2
Grace Keating also claimed 2
Support came from Swara Urankar, Isabella Hill, and Sophie Randall, all picking up a wicket apiece
New Milton’s discipline stood out, with several economical spells — notably Jess Glover’s 8 overs for just 12 runs, which really squeezed the scoring.
New Milton chase with composure
In reply, New Milton made things look fairly straightforward, reaching 144-3 in 29 overs.
The early part of the innings was steady rather than explosive. Both openers got starts but didn’t quite push on, leaving the score at 64-2. But from there, the chase was controlled with little fuss.
Grace Keating starred with the bat, finishing unbeaten on 54, a calm and authoritative knock that held the innings together. She was well supported by Jemima Gittins, who added a patient 24 not out, guiding the team home without further alarm.
Hursley did manage a few breakthroughs:
Freya Cutler, Lucy Chau, and Ellie Musson each picked up a wicket
But the main issue was extras — 33 in total, including 20 wides — which made the chase that much easier for New Milton.
The bigger picture
This was a solid, professional outing from New Milton. Their bowlers kept things under control throughout, and the batters did exactly what was required in the chase without taking unnecessary risks.
For Hursley Park, there were moments of promise, particularly from Steele Velazquez and Musson, but they’ll likely look back at those middle-order collapses and the number of extras conceded as areas to tidy up.
