Match report 20th Jun.

Gareth Bennett

The sun dances have worked, it actually felt like summer with the sun out and blue skies overhead. An away game fixture that found ourselves playing New Milton u15 Girls, not the furthest away game at all!

Elliott won the toss and elected to bat, excellent choice, try and use all the tricks to tire them out first!

Elliott and Jason opened with the task to see off 5 overs, both did the job very well and some lovely boundaries by Elliot scoring him 20 or so runs.

Elliot can only be described as getting away with one by not being given out for a faint edge but succumbed to an edge behind a couple overs later.

Noah and Jason batted for a short time before Jason was bowled by accurate bowling. Will Branton came in played a lovely cut shot only to be caught at point by an outstanding low catch on his first ball. In came Micha. Defended the hat-trick but was out the next ball. In came Andrew Jackson a stellar last minute replacement who would carry his bat through the innings.

Noah was bowled a couple overs later after a couple of 4s but at the halfway point scores looking low. Isaac and Andrew with some stout defence did the job of buying out some overs and unfortunately Isaac was given out by some dodgy umpiring (me). Unfortunately it was pretty plumb.

Christopher joined Andrew at the crease and sore off more than 5 overs facing their best bowlers that had come back on. A handful a runs and a few more wides and no balls helped tick the total to 66.

Our turn to bowl opening with Elliott and Noah, and with their Opening bat out in the 4th over the game was on. Bowled by Noah and a solid catch by Elliot! This opening bat scored over 100 a week or so ago and was looking dangerous!

Will Branton, the demon of spin came on to bowl paired with Issac. Combination of ice cold from the spin king to the fire of Isaac’s accurate pace. Will getting some key wickets. Best thing you want to hear is the bats person saying they hate spin. Will bowled 4 overs straight through paired with Micha who found his rhythm in his bowling.

A drop by Will off his own bowling didn’t put him off as he calmly threw the ball to Jason who demolished the stumps for an easy run out. A common theme with 2 quick run outs including a calm direct hit from the skipper!

A catch from Isaac brought the game back into reach but unfortunately we couldn’t take the last couple of wickets and we lost by 3 wickets.

Scores will be uploaded to play cricket but top scoring was Elliot and some excellent bowling by Will was the pick of our bowlers.

The boys did well tonight against a tough opposition. U15 girls that have played a competitive level showed their class and accuracy in bowling but the boys did well to take them to 15 overs, a few more runs with the bat and we would have had them. Thanks to Andrew, Isaac and Will for stepping up tonight. Thanks to all of the parents for your continued support and of course to Sal for once again scoring.

For the parents that were there tonight you may have been aware of the lack of support that the u15 girls provided into their home fixture. We were the away team tonight despite playing at new Milton but the u15 girls provided no scorer and little assistance to help Sal score and identify who was bowling, batting or scoreboard. Their coach apologised afterwards and said he has asked the parents to help their team out but have not had any uptake. So a massive thankyou from both myself and Gareth to you all, we can’t give the kids these games without you. It takes the support of you all to run these games and never once have we had to really press for help. Gareth’s scoring lessons he ran at the start of the season are really important as sometimes the coach will be out and umpire. Without the scorer it becomes an impossible task to manage the game, score and umpire all at the same time and ultimately we want the boys to enjoy it. So once again a massive thank you to all for help, support and volunteering you do, and if anyone wants to get more involved in scoring or general help with BBQs on Fridays we would be grateful for the help.

Thanks Jamie.
